What is the book (or books) you’ve given most as a gift, and why? Or what are one to three books that have greatly influenced your life?

Gift – Harari “Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind”, this is well written book with interesting view on global problems.  There are a lot of books that influenced my life in a way: Thomas Mann “Josef and his brothers”, Dostoevsky “Brothers Karamazov”, Tolstoy “Anna Karenina”, Orwell “1984”, Kanemann  “Thinking fast and slow”

What purchase of $100 or less has most positively impacted your life in the last six months (or in recent memory)? 

I would say that it was my recent purchase of a ballet ticket to the Royal Opera House. This was an unforgettable experience. The performance of “The Cellist” was a moving and inspiring depiction of Jacqueline du Pré’s extraordinary life and music. The combination of captivating modern choreography, beautiful music, and powerful and dramatic storyline moved me deeply, leaving me with the tears in my eyes. 

When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused or have lost your focus temporarily, what do you do?

When I feel overwhelmed or unfocused, I like to go for a walk or meditate.

What are bad recommendations you hear in your profession or area of expertise?

Never consider shortcuts; always adhere to established procedures 

In the last five years, what new belief, behaviour, or habit has most improved your life?

My life-guiding feature during the last couple of years has been resilience. My strong belief is that external circumstances don’t determine our destiny. There’s always a way to move forward, adapt, overcome obstacles, emerge stronger, and still be excited about life.

What is one of the best or most worthwhile investments you’ve ever made? 

Time and energy invested in my children It’s an investment of time, energy and money.

When did you first become a rebel? 

Truented the school for a month when I didn’t like it

How has a failure, or apparent failure, set you up for later success? Do you have a “favourite failure” of yours?

I faced several business failures, and it was quite tough. I don’t have any favorites among these setbacks, but they were instrumental in shaping my identity.

What advice would you give to a smart, driven college student about to enter the “real world”? What advice should they ignore?

Learn and avoid getting stuck in a comfortable situation

What is the most significant thing that someone much younger than yourself has taught you?

 

My younger son is teaching me english school slang 🙂
