A Fireside Chat

I had the opportunity to have an amazing conversation with Bonnie Bakhtiari at B is for Bonnie Design today. From talking about SEO for Websites, Bonnie agreed to a quick interview.

She took the time to talk to me and answer some questions so I could get to know her better and hear more about the things that have helped shape her business success to date – let’s get stuck into it!

What Is The Book (Or Books) You’ve Given Most As A Gift, And Why?

My go-to gift for my custom branding clients is “Start with Why” by Simon Sinek. I love how it helps entrepreneurs get to the core of Why they do what they do!

What Purchase Of $100 Or Less Has Most Positively Impacted Your Life In The Last Six Months?

My Byta stainless steel water bottle is always on my desk and helps keep me hydrated every day! Plus, it’s so stylish that my clients often ask where I bought it when it makes an appearance on Zoom calls. (https://mybyta.com/products/byta-bottle-navagio)

When You Feel Overwhelmed Or Unfocused, Or Have Lost Your Focus Temporarily, What Do You Do?

I first give myself permission to take a break. I’ve never created anything life-changing under force. After some time to clear my head, I’ll break down the problem to the basics–where am I feeling stuck? What’s the core issue? What’s the simplest solution? Looking at something that previously tripped me up under a metaphorical microscope helps me often find a quick, easy-to-implement solution.

What Is One Of The Best Or Most Worthwhile Investments You’ve Ever Made?

Bringing on a small but mighty team to help me serve my clients and course students with intention!

Don't be afraid to keep your head down and do the work.

- Bonnie Bakhtiari

In the last five years, what new belief, behavior, or habit has most improved your life?

Taking notes during meetings and calls. This may be a no-brainer to some, but it’s suprising how many people don’t do this. For a long time, neither did I. I assumed I would remember the gist of the conversation afterwards and in many instances, that was true. But once I began taking notes, I realized just how valuable so many minor comments and suggestions were that before, I would have missed. The value of re-reading these notes, especially before a follow-up or subsequent meeting cannot be understated.

If you could have a gigantic billboard anywhere with anything on it — what would it say and why?

You can’t solve a problem with the same mind that created it.

What careers advice would you give to your 21-year old self?

Don’t be afraid to keep your head down and do the work. It’s all too easy to look to your left and to your right, looking to what others are doing. But trust yourself, listen to your gut, and you’ll always know you took intentional action from a place of honesty.

Tell Us About Your Business. What Does It Do And What Value Do You Add?

I’m a brand designer, strategist, and coach for designers. I help women entrepreneurs create elevated, strategic visual identities that position them as the go-to experts their ideal clients are searching for. As a result, they’re able to charge more for their work, consistently connect with their ideal clients, and experience more fulfilment as they do the work they love!

What is a useful skill someone could learn in one minute?

I’m not sure I’d call this a skill but certainly a good life habit: turn off notifications on your phone. You don’t need to be interrupted every two seconds by an incoming email or Instagram DM.

What's your favourite colour?

White! Although blush is a close second.

What one thing in life do you consider to be overrated?

Money. Yes, it’s important to have it but it won’t necessarily make you happier, healthier or wiser.

What's your star sign?

Gemini-Cancer cusp.

What did you have for breakfast this morning?

A fried egg, turkey sausage, veggies, and an oat milk latte.
